Surreal Reality. What does it mean?

Surreal reality is pretty much what my life is all about.  So, what does that mean?  Mundane life is pretty boring.  How can we lift our existence to a new level that makes it at least interesting. I challenge myself to re-write life’s canvas into shapes and forms that do that for me. That is my reality. I hope you enjoy it.

I do not portend to categorize these pieces. My works were once described as being ‘TULPA’ by the noted Tibetan Buddhist scholar Robert Thurman (father of Uma Thurman). I know some will decry this description but some interpretations of Tulpa do apply. The works are of what may be known as ‘thought forms’ or ‘mind mates.’  Mr. Thurman said the work evoked something ‘not of this world, yet familiar’. I strive to subconsciously add these elements in the spaces in between, as in the Buddhist saying: ‘In form there is emptiness; in emptiness there is form.’ The form in emptiness is defined as what makes a chair look like a chair. I strive for a semi-meditative state when approaching the creation of a piece.

I hope that you enjoy the work…the shapes, the colors and the details. Thank you for taking the time to peruse this domain.
